Hello all-
Thanks for visiting! I am a 20-something college student who strives to maintain a healthy, balanced life. I love cooking with healthy, whole foods (which is why I dare you to Eat the “Whole” Thing!) and try to eat them as much as I can. It’s not always easy on a student budget and with only a microwave to work with but I am trying my best. I started this blog to share my thoughts and ideas (and some eats as well!) Hopefully you will be inspired to live a healthy, full life, just as many of your blogs have inspired me to do.
My Food and Exercise Philosophy
In the past, I have struggled with finding the right balance between eating right and exercising. I either ate too little, or exercised too much! It has taken about three years to find the right balance and to make peace with food. When I realized that some of my habits were unhealthy and causing me to feel isolated and stressed, I didn’t even know what foods I thought tasted good. I really only looked at food for it’s caloric value or what the latest “fad” had to say about it. Over the past few years, it has taken a lot of effort to reevaluate and to establish what is important. Food was not going to come between me and a full, happy life!
I have come a long way and am still learning more everyday. I am happy to be where I am now, appreciating food for it’s ability to nourish my body as well as be a source of enjoyment. I now look for foods that are whole and nutritious, but most importantly taste delicious. Life is too short to eat food that doesn’t taste good! I strive to eat everything in moderation, and the same goes for exercise. I love walking and especially love yoga. I have learned more about myself and my body through yoga and am thankful to have the ability to practice.
The Lotus Flower
You may be wondering why there is a Lotus flower on the homepage of a blog about healthy living. The Lotus flower is symbolic of rebirth, growth and peace. What once starts as a small flower at the bottom of a muddy pond, grows into a beautiful, more meaningful flower. I love this particular interpretation of the Lotus flower and try to remember it and use it as a source of inspiration as I continue to grow as a person.
