Go With The Flow

Wonderful class this morning. It was a new class that the studio is offering called Yoga Grooves. It reminded me a lot of Shiva Rea’s style in that there is a lot of fluidity in the movement, almost like a dance. The actual poses were like those in a regular flow class but the twist was that the music was the star and was used to inspire movement. There were many times when we were able to flow freely doing whatever our bodies told us to do and to “go with the flow” of the music. She encourgaed us to get lost in the music and see what your body wants to do with it. I loved it. Flow always feels so graceful to me and takes me back to my days as a gymnast. I was a gymnast for 9 years and kept up with tumbling and cheerleading for 6 years after that..I was quite the little tumbler!

I could talk about that all day…but I won’t. I woke up a little later than I wanted so I made breakfast lighter than the normal oats. I had the remaining fage from yesterday with raspberries and honey and an Ezekiel English Muffin with ooey gooey Barney Butter and Pumpkin Butter:

Those are my favorite Christmas plates. We have had them for years. I have been known to use them at all times of the year 🙂

Post yoga I had an apple and some chocolate soy milk:

Home Sweet Home

FINALLY! I’m home! In the last few hours at school, I wasn’t sure I was going to make it. I got in around 9:30 last night and felt a huge wave of relief.

I fired up the BIG crockpot last night to ensure I would have a nice comforting breakfast in the morning. I had apple-cinnamon oats with Barney Butter and craisins.

YUMM.

Raleigh greeted me last night as she usually does by jumping all over the place. It’s a joyous reunion…sometimes she whimpers as if she is crying with joy. Or at least I like to think that. Makes me feel like a good “mom.”  🙂

My Mom and I are off to take her to the groomer. Her hair is so long you can barely see her face!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thursday!

Tossing and Turning

Those two little words are exactly how I spent my night. I did not sleep for more than 4 hours. I am so frustrated! My mind was going 92387429385 miles per hour last night and I couldn’t fall or stay asleep. I was so upset this morning! Talked to my mom though and she always does a good job of making me feel better.

I “woke up” at 6:30 and left to take a friend to her early morning test around 7:00. She drove me to my late night one last night. Speaking of that test…I am pretty sure I did well enough to get an A. BUT I WANT TO KNOW…what smarty pants thinks it is a good idea for a test to let out at 10:00pm. Don’t they know there are young women who have to walk back to their places of residence or cars in the dark!? It is so dangerous. I am all of 5’2 and probably couldn’t hurt a butterfly let alone defend myself if someone were to come out of nowhere! Oy ve! Ok…I’m done complaining 🙂

When I got back I showered to try to refresh my self and feel rested and then made a delicious smoothie and half an Ezekiel cinnamon raising English muffin with a thin layer of peanut butter for breakfast. The smoothie had vanilla soy milk, chocolate Spiru-tein (a little packet I bought at the health food store a while ago), half of a large, cold banana, and frozen strawberries. It was very refreshing and was just the pick me up I needed.

I am going to put my happy face on and make the best of my day. After all, I do get to have dinner with my Dad tonight after test #3 and that will be just the distraction I need!

Have a great day!

Good Morning everyone! Have I mentioned before that I am DEFINITELY a morning person!? It shone through this morning….

I went to bed much later than normal last night since my test review didn’t let out until about midnight(!).  Being the morning person that I am I still woke up around 7. That is DEFINITELY early for the college folk. I get crazy looks in the morning from girls who just don’t understand my early morning good moods! Anywho…I woke up and had breakfast. I am trying to eat all of the things left in the freezer and fridge so I ate one of my Cinnamon Raisin Ezekiel English Muffins with Organic Peanut Butter and Banana.

IMG_2682

I promise there is an English muffin under there! My Dad slices the banana that way when he does this and I definitely like it better than just little circles. They don’t fall off AND you can taste banana in every bite! Loves it.

Post breakfast I studied for a while, cleaned up my room, and….did a yoga class from yogadownload.com. Jenna over at Eat, Live, Run has been raving about them and I wanted to try it out. I did a Power/Vinyasa class and LOVED it! I was so impressed. This is so wonderful for those who don’t have access to a yoga studio (I would definitely recommend taking studio classes first though to become familiar with yoga if you are new to it). The girl who taught this class was a great guide for a very invigorating session. I will definitely try it again soon.

TIP: When you go to check out on yogadownload.com it asks if you have a special coupon/code…I did a google search for yogadownload.com coupons and was able to get a free class. (Many online retailers offer coupons too..you just have to seek them out!)

After my blissful yoga hour I got ready for the day and made some lunch. Half an Ezekiel Pocket Bread (are you noticing a patter…I LOVE EZEKIEL BREAD!) with Sabra Roasted Red Pepper Hummus, sun-dried tomatoes and spinach with a Greek Yogurt on the side for some protein. I swirled about a tsp of honey into the yogurt. SO DELICIOUS and creamy. I ate the other half of the pocket bread plain. It’s really yummy. Oh, and a carrot!

Oh…and these little treasures:

Almost as “bliss”ful as yoga this morning!

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone. Back to studying and probably a few errands this afternoon. See ya later!

My appetite is here and in FULL force. This past weekend, my eating times were strange and I never felt very hungry. I’m glad to report that my appetite is back in action.

I woke up in the middle of the night (4 am to be exact) absolutely STARVING! It was a little distracting but I managed to fall back asleep until 7am. For breakfast I had oats in hopes (rhyme?) that it would hold me over until lunch. Typically it does. But NOO.

IMG_2509

A mere 2.5 hours later…Peach Kefir smoothie with half a banana and frozen mango.

IMG_2515

AND…half an Cinnamon Raisin Ezekiel English Muffin with a thin layer of PB.

 IMG_2517

This should hold me over for a late lunch.

Test Update: 1 test down, 3 to go. The next three are next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Let the studying begin. Can’t wait to be done and get back home! Have a great Monday

Sunday Funday

Happy Sunday! It’s absolutely beautiful here in Titletown (Gainesville, Fl; Go Gators!). The high is 62 today and there isn’t a cloud in the sky. I woke up bright and early this morning and got dressed and ready to go to church with my roommate. Breakfast was unfortunately un pictured once assembled but here is what it consisted of:

and:

IMG_2470

I spread a thin layer of peanut butter on half of a cinnamon raisin Ezekiel English Muffin. I drizzled a little bit of honey on the yogurt and tah-dah…Breakfast.

Fage is my favorite brand of Greek Yogurt. I love the 2%; the Total is too rich, and I refuse to eat 0% fat anything =). Many things that are totally fat free have added preservatives and artificial ingredients to make it taste the same. I don’t think the Fage 0% does but life is too short to eat fat-free stuff! That extra flavor boost is worth the added fat.

After church I came home and made a wrap for a quick lunch. It had a little bit of Turkey, broccoli slaw, yellow bell pepper, cucumber and about 1 tbsp each of blue cheese crumbles and honey dijon.

IMG_2461

It was rather tasty.

A word on eating meat: I have gone back and forth with vegetarianism in the past year or so and have decided that to have a healthy, balanced died, I need to include a little bit of meat. I eat small amounts of turkey and chicken and rarely red meat (only when it is being served and I have no other choice.) In times when I have gone strictly vegetarian, I tended to rely to heavily on soy products. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE soy milk and tofu and usually have a little bit of soy milk every day however, too much of it can be harmful. I have been reading that soy can cause increased levels of estrogen that can be harmful and don’t want to mess around with this as a young woman. Also, soy contains goitrogens that can lead to thyroid dysfunction. Another something I don’t want to mess around with! After much deliberation and thought, I have decided to include poultry in my diet to ensure that I am not getting to much soy and still getting enough protein.

Remember those brownies I mentioned from the Christmas party a few nights ago….

IMG_2457

My roommate made a batch at a friend’s apartment (no oven here…ahh!) and brought me one last night. I saved it as a dessert for after lunch. It was DIVINE.

My sorority uses styrofoam (as you can see above)…yikes. We have been trying to convince our house mom for a while now to use paper instead. Hopefully we are headed in that direction!

I think this beautiful weather is calling for an outdoor walk. If only there was somewhere to do yoga outside too…I may have to find a spot =) Hope everyone enjoy’s their Sunday!

Festive Breakfast

Good morning! Got a bit of what feels like a late start…I didn’t wake up until 8. I wasn’t hungry at all so I didn’t eat breakfast until 9.

In light of Thanksgiving and soon to be Christmas, I had a rather festive bowl of oats this morning. I made a batch of cinnamon oatmeal earlier this week in my little 2 quart crock pot. This morning I heated up a portion and then stirred in pumpkin and banana. On top was about 1 tablespoon of organic peanut butter (only two ingredients on the list; peanuts and salt), and a sprinkle of dried cranberries and chocolate chips.

IMG_2422

Yum…there’s nothing better than melty peanut butter! I like to get a little on my spoon for each bite. Can’t taste it when it’s all stirred in.

Today’s agenda includes studying, hopefully some Christmas movie-watching, and a trip to the mall for a pet adopt-a-thon for the local animal shelter. Have a great Saturday. Anyone doing anything exciting?
